I agree with the main points that the author (futuregirl) made in this entry of hers. I was mainstreamed all the way from preschool to high school, and I do not regret it one bit, because of A) the educational opportunities I received (being in AP and Honors classes), B) what it did for my English skills, and C) exacting upon me the precise kind of all-around balanced mentality needed to successfully operate within both worlds (more importantly, the hearing world, like it or not, because that's what you've gotta work with in order to make it big). Deaf schools do not rank very highly in my book, at least as far as quality of education and opportunities to be enriched in that certain worldly way are concerned. Quite honestly, it's things like this that disgust the hell out of me. Either shut down ineffective deaf schools, OR restructure them in a way that actually puts them on par with mainstreamed schools.
